Between Vines and Sea: Ktima Gerovassiliou

Just outside Thessaloniki, on the Epanomi peninsula, the vineyards of Ktima Gerovassiliou (Κτήμα Γεροβασιλείου) are surrounded by sea on three sides. Founded in 1981 by winemaker Vangelis Gerovassiliou, the man credited with reviving Malagousia, a nearly forgotten Greek white grape, the estate looks across the Thermaic Gulf towards Mount Olympus.

I visited in late September, as the season was turning. This series follows what the place offers a camera: long rows of vines under open northern Greek light, sculpture standing among the vineyards, and the stillness of the cellar and the Wine Museum, home to more than 2,600 corkscrews dating back to the eighteenth century.

My interest here is editorial rather than documentary: how a working landscape, architecture and craft sit together in a single frame, and how a winery tells its story through light and material.
